Dwarfs Can’t Flank...

So the battle is over and it had so little action it’s almost impossible to write a battle report but here goes.

Picture the field of engagement. One large open plateau bordered on one side by trees and on the other by a hill, with a small valley just the other side of it. The Red Lady, leading the Red Duke’s army for a third time by herself, deployed her entire force on the main field, while Bryngrund Garin deployed his warriors, long beards and slayers in the valley, leaving only his plethora of warmachines out in the open, including that horrible Gyrocopter.

To cut a long story short, Dwarfs have short legs and they don’t stand a chance of out flanking any force, even the shambling undead.

The Direwolves were cut down in short order, but they were only there to keep the Vargulf safe. The Red Lady miscast twice, only managing to wound herself and two skeletons in total. Knowing her track record however I thought she was likely to implode. While the main of the Dwarf force proceeded down the flank unable to get past the hill they had thought was so cunning. The Red Lady and her vampire pals dodged cannon balls, blessed bolts and a hail of crossbows.

At last the Ghouls managed to charge the Crossbowmen, the Vargulf frighten one of the bolt thrower crews off and ripped through the other, overrunning into the side of the crossbowmen. However the poor Ghouls had been hit with a massive dose of grapeshot that killed everything it hit but one man. This combined with only a single kill on the crossbowmen from 16 attacks left the Ghouls shattered, with only the Ghast surviving combat resolution.

However that was all that was needed. The Vargulf, St. Angelus, ripped through the back rank and Mortus Nox, the necromancer, buried his blade into the front. It was all too much for the poor missile troops, they fled and Mortus gave chase, laying low the last five men.

Unfortunately the time it took to finish off the missile troops left the Red Lady out of place and unable to claim enough table quarters. So in a game where the enemy just hid behind a hill while the prettiest vampire slew everything in sight, the stunty folk somehow managed to pull off a draw.

Man of the Match

This award has to goes to Mortus Nox who singlehandedly slew six Dwarfs, which is more than my largest units managed.

Fool of the Match

Once again the Red Lady gets the wooden spoon for continuingly trying to blow herself up and bury her unit in a large crater in the ground; almost handing the hiding dwarfs the match on two separate occasions...!
